Oscar Freire - Tirreno Adriatico 2006 |
Oscar Freire cross checks just before the start of the IIT in Offagna; it was ten years ago. It was a very cold, rainy day that decided the edition of the Tirreno Adriatico with the great performance by Thomas Dekker; we expected a lot from this guy, who never confirmed his talent later on. But the reason to post this old picture is the jersey.
In fact it shows the traditional colors of the leader at Tirreno Adriatico, before definitively turning to the blue. The red and yellow colors recall the one used by the Roma soccer team but in general by sport clubs in the Italian capital. This is explained by the fact that the inventor of the race, Franco Mealli, was a member of the "Velo Club Forze Sportive Romane", a Roman sport bike club. Franco was aiming to organize a race in preparation to the Milano Sanremo, to support the Italian riders who were missing the win in the Primavera for too long time. It was March 1966 when this great race hit the road for the first time.

quando scrivi solo in inglese faccio un po' fatica a seguirti, però sembro più colto di quello che sono
Adoro scrivere e farlo in Inglese mi limita un po'. A volte troppo. Però ho tanti amici che tornano su queste pagine altrimenti a loro inaccessibili. Boh, potrei tornare alla doppia lingua. Ma che fatica...
