Alla fine non s'è mai capito se fosse uno scalatore od un passista veloce. Se fosse uomo da corse a tappe o d'un giorno solo. Però tutti noi abbiamo ammirato la sua tenacia e la grinta che, in diverse occasioni, gli ha consentito di fare la differenza. Un vero duro, un corridore che ha conosciuto momenti esaltanti ed ampi periodi d'assenza. Quando lascia uno così, in gruppo viene a mancare qualcosa. In questa immagine scala Oropa, nella crono del Giro 2007, il giorno prima d'una grande ed esaltante vittoria a Bergamo.
At the end wasn't clear if he has been a climber or a fast pacer, if he was a grand tours man or a one day race guy. I come to know he is going to quit his long carreer and I feel the bunch is going to remain with a hole inside. But everybody has appreciated his style and his hard to die approach. It's the interior strenght that made him able to overcome his phisical limits in some occasion. A hard man, a rider who knows great days and long waits.
